The benignant Philanthropist Dr.RM.Alagappa Chettiar established a Teacher Training College on 07.07.1950 at Karaikudi. Later it became the constituent college of Alagappa University in 1985 and it was named as Alagappa University College of Education. Since its inception, the institution has produced more than 7000 teachers, majority of them are employed in the Government, Government–aided, CBSE and Matriculation Schools across the country. The distinguished alumni include Best Teacher Awardees and visionary heads of many institutions including universities. In the academic year 2010-2011, Alagappa University College of Education introduced B.Ed. Special Education Programme with an intake of 25 students, granted by the University Grants Commission, under UGC innovative programme. The College of Education served as a Learning Centre for B.Ed. Programme of IGNOU. At present, it is also acting as a Learning Centre for B.Ed. Programme of ALU-CDOE. The College is well equipped in terms of faculty and infrastructure. The staff members who have expertise in their respective fields employ modern pedagogical techniques to produce creative Teachers and Teacher-Educators for the Nation.
