Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Chikmagalur was started on 23rd October 1986 by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body which comes under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India at Coffee Research Station, Koppa Taluk, Chikmagalur District. Navodaya Vidyalaya is the dream child of Late Rajeev Gandhi, the Ex-Prime Minister of India. The school is one of the senior most Navodaya Schools in India. As classes grew, the want of space and infrastructure made necessity to shift the campus to new location.After two years it was shifted to the permanent site at Seegodu, on Chikmagalur to Sringeri road, 5 Km from Balehonnur town. What started in a modest way, with limited facilities and number of difficulties has grown now in infrastructure facilities by leaps and bounds, with distinct buildings and areas like Administrative Block, Academic Block, Residential Quarters, Kitchen & Dining Hall, Dormitories, Play fields etc., in 36 acres of land divided by State Highway in to two plots covering the entire area of the crest and flanks of a hillock. The Campus is located in picturesque beauty of forest and coffee estates.
