Sree Buddha Central School, Karunagappally was established in the year 1993 under the management of the Sree Buddha Foundation, Kollam. The Foundation is a registered voluntary social and cultural organization which endeavors to popularize the sublime teachings of the world teacher – Sree Buddha. The Foundation was inaugurated by Prof. M.K. Sanoo on 17th January 1993 at Karunagappally.The School was formally declared open by Shri. K.Gopinathan, General Secretary, SNDP Yogam on 7th June 1993 at the temporary site in Karunagappally town.

The school was shifted to the permanent site at Edakulangara on 1st June 1994.The school which began with 83 students and 5 teachers in 1993 has grown to an establishment with 3500 students, 140 teachers and 60 non-teaching staff. The growth of the institution, no doubt, is phenomenal and it is made possible because of the whole hearted support of the Public, especially the parents. The foundation started functioning with Prof. K Sasikumar as the Chairman, Prof. V Prasad as the Secretary, Sri. G Yatheesh as the Treasurer and the executive members are Sri. G Venugopal, Sri. S M Venkitta Narayana Reddiyar, Sri. P D Vipin , Dr. G Raveendran, Sri. T V Rajan and Dr. Raji Raveendran. Subsequently Dr. K B Manoj, Sri. R Ravi, Dr. M Asokan, Sri. A C Vijayachandran, Sri. G Suseelan, Sri. Sundaresan and Smt. Indira Vibin (Wife of late Sri. P D Vipin) were also inducted into the commitee.
