In the Third Five Year Plangreat emphasis was laid for the rapid industrialisation of our country. Establishment and development of Chemical Industries on large scale was undertaken as a sequel to this. Keeping in view the needs of this ray idly developing spectram of Chemical Industries for man power to operate and maintain them and taking stock of its man power potential in the coming years, the Government of Tamil Nadu started The Institute of Chemical Technology, the first of its kind in the State in the year 1963. (Vide G.O. No. 3044 Education date 20-12-62) The Institute had its humble start at Central Polytechnic Building and later ssas shifted to its present location in the C.I.T. Campus in 12-6-1964.
